Les Jardins de Métis / Reford Gardens Selected as one of Canada’s Signature Tourism Experiences by the Canadian Tourism Commission

Grand-Métis, May 3, 2012. Les Jardins de Métis is one of 48 sites and destinations across the country to have selected to join the Signature Tourism Experiences program by the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), along with Exploramer and the Site historique maritime de Pointe-au-Père from the Québec maritime region.

The Signature Experiences Collection® is a collection of remarkable experiences available from coast-to-coast-to-coast throughout Canada. The SEC program is an important element of Canada’s Federal Tourism Strategy. Since the launch of SEC in July 2011, a total of 163 outstanding experiences from every region of the country have become part of the collection.

Signature Experiences Collection® members include the best attractions that Canada has to offer and help show the world why our country is such an authentic and engaging place to visit,” says the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism). “This initiative is a key part of Canada’s Federal Tourism Strategy, which is based on a collaborative approach between industry and other levels of government to secure Canada’s competitive position in the global tourism market.”

The gardens were selected for uniquely being at the crossroads of architecture, art and gardens. « We are thrilled and honoured to join this prestigious group of leading tourism experiences across the country, » commented Alexander Reford, director of Les Jardins de Métis / Reford Gardens. « In this our 50th anniversary year of being open to the public, it shows that our gardens continue to offer unique experiences. We have worked hard to renew our floral displays in the historic gardens, provide leading edge conceptual gardens by the best designers from around the world at our annual International Garden Festival and innovate with our culinary offerings in Estevan Lodge. Our culture of innovation has been rewarded in joining this group of sites, attractions and tourism producers as ambassadors for Canada ».

Les Jardins de Métis / Reford Gardens is one of the premier gardens in North America. A national historic site, the gardens have welcomed more than 5 million visitors since being opened in 1962. Earlier this year, Les Jardins de Métis were recognized as one of the 17 wonders of Quebec by Léger Marketing and Le Journal de Montréal. The gardens will open for the 2012 season on Saturday, June 2 and host dozens of special events and activities spread over 120 days.
