PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release

Grand-Métis, August 9, 2010. The Reford Gardens (Les Jardins de Métis) are pleased to announce the launch of a range of specialty gourmet products featuring flavours from the plant collections of the gardens. Eight products are now available at the shops at the Gardens. Sold in containers of 212 ml at prices ranging $5 to $11, these gourmet delights provide extraordinary flavours and a souvenir of the Gardens.

Aromatic plants and herbs were carefully selected in the composition of these spreads, pickles, and jellies. The range of specialty products is: Blueberry and Lavender Spread, Wild Strawberry and Lemon Basil Spread, Wild Mint Jelly, Labrador Tea Jelly, Crabapple Jelly, Daisy buds in Wine Vinegar, Fiddleheads Pickled in Wine Vinegar and Pickled Daylily Buds.

The products are packaged with distinct labels, each of which depicts the flower featured in each product. Jardins de Métis products are also available from specialty shops, such as Pain & Passion in Quebec City, Pâtisserie Bruno Romand in Rimouski. For information on how to retail specialty products from Les Jardins de Métis, contact the gardens at the number below.

These new products are the results of a pilot project spearheaded by the garden’s chef, Pierre-Olivier Ferry. Prepared in the kitchens of Estevan Lodge by chef Ferry and his team, the products have been created using flavours culled from the gardens and picked by Gaspésie Sauvage in the forests and fields of eastern Québec. Gaspésie Sauvage specializes in collecting plants and fruits from the fields and forest of the Gaspésie, such as edible plants, mushrooms and berries. Reford Gardens has invested more than $100,000 in specialized equipment to increase production and assure quality control of the more than 15,000 jars produced every year. Les Jardins de Métis has received support from the CLD de La Mitis, the SADC de La Mitis, the ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) and from the ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation (MDEIE) for this project.
